The Mindfield
344 W. Main Street

In 1989, artist and Brownsville native Billy Tripp began creating an artistic structure that represented his life. The “Mindfield” is a 100-foot-tall, multi-faceted metalwork sculpture that dominates the Brownsville skyline.  Following their death, he dedicated the work to his parents.  Each year Tripp makes an addition to the “Mindfield.”  Many pieces were taken from local businesses or warehouses that had closed, such as trusses from the Ritz Theater that was slated for demolition.  The structure continues to bring in tourists from around the world and has become a consistent topic of discussion between tourists, residents, and city government.  Next door to the structure is the Mindfield Café.
