Felsenthal “Abraham Lincoln” Collection

Haywood County Museum (127 N. Grand Ave., College Hill Center) West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center (121 Sunny Hill Cove)

A descendant of the community’s first Jewish settlers, Morton Felsenthal was born in Brownsville in 1899.  He served as the Lay Reader at Temple Adas Israel from 1936 to 1982. When Felsenthal died in 1993 he left his collection of Abraham Lincoln artifacts and memorabilia to Haywood County. A majority of the collection is housed and on display at the Haywood County Museum at College Hill Center, the former Brownsville Baptist Female College. A small portion of the collection is also located at the Delta Heritage Center. As a whole, it is considered one of the largest privately owned collections in the Southeast and includes over 800 pictures, documents, and other artifacts from Abraham Lincoln’s life and the Civil War.
